Panda Boy

Panda Boy is a panda who loves to wear a striped shirt (so do i). He always put a bow tie as the finishing touch to his look. His face is so innocent but has an ignorant smile. He’s so kind, thoughtful, and friendly to others. Take a look at his face…

panda 1

He loves striped shirt with so many colors combination. Do you want to make him by yourself? What colors will you choose for his shirt? As a trial, I’ve made a striped shirt in white and green (click this). But then I’ve made up my mind to make another one using this color. This one’s my favorite striped shirt, white and ochre.

panda 2

My kids said that his green-white striped shirt is way better than this one. But I love ochre more.. so, this one is my fav!

Now it’s your turn to make one for you. Choose your favorite colors to his striped shirt. Color doesn’t matter to him, as long as it’s striped shirt, he won’t disappoint with it 🙂

The pattern is ready to download both on my Etsy Shop and Ravelry . Hope you have a wonderful day today 🙂

Cloud Amigurumi

Hello again, it’s been awhile since my last post… Looks like I’m drowning in daily routine and forgot to write down my project progress.

Well, in early July, I’ve finished making and writing a new pattern. It’s about a cloud, it’s a very versatile amigurumi cloud pattern. Yeah, I love making a versatile pattern so you won’t stuck only in one idea. Why I said it a versatile pattern? Because only from one pattern you can create more than one creations. Please tell me now, what you’re going to make from this one? 😀

22

I say it could be a cloud mobile, baby rattle, or brooch. See? I got three ideas from one pattern. So tell me what you’re going to make using this basic pattern? 😀

This pattern I made by request from my friend who wanted this kind of cloud mobile for her pre-teen daughter. I admit it’s so hard to make the cloud-shape in amigurumi, need so many times of trials and errors. Instead of complaining about the difficulty parts, better I show you the result…

I didn’t expect the result really blown my mind… it’s SO cute, maybe too cute! Don’t you think so? 😀

I’ve sent it away and she’s happy with the result 😀 And then I wrote the pattern after that, but only the cloud as a basic pattern, plus “drop” as the bonus pattern. The pattern is ready to download both on my Etsy shop and Ravelry (yes, finally I have a new store on Ravelry).

Tree Baby Rattle Amigurumi Pattern

Yoohoo! I finally finished this tutorial, so relieved 😀

Before I tell you a story behind this tree baby rattle, I want you to know that the pattern is already listed in my shop, here. You won’t be sorry to download it.. it’s cute overload and really photogenic ^_^ V

So, the story is, there are 2 things that inspiring me. First, I inspired by my childhood when I always drew this kind of tree. Even my friend or I think almost kids at my age (in my country or in my town) loved to drew this typical of tree! I didn’t know why older people (read: drawing teachers or parents) taught us to drew that kind of typical tree. Now I can say that was weird and not creative at all. Even for some other images, they taught us to did the same way in the same step and shape, so our creation looked just the same. Well… what can I say now..

Luckily, that memory sticks on my mind and gave me an idea to create this baby toy (and I don’t want to do the same way to nowadays generation, or at least to my kids to draw something that looks so typical ). I have to admit that it’s so hard to implement this typical of tree to amigurumi and create the pattern. But at the end, I did it 🙂 That’s so relieving. I really enjoyed and excited to make this tutorial. And the result was awesome. I had a positive feedback on my Instagram when I uploaded a short video of the sample pattern. It made me feel more excited to finish the pattern as soon as possible.

28

Second, I always curious about baby’s development. Once when my kids were just born until they reached 2 years old, sometimes I was in my mood swing. I always nervous and curious about baby’s development. I had their diaries so I could make sure that they grew well, or maybe just in case that I missed something out. The important thing that I always think is stimulation for baby is a must. Even we do a simple thing, it is important to baby’s development. Trust me 🙂

So, I can’t ignore the basic things when I designed this baby rattle. Baby needs something playful to stimulate the sensory. This baby rattle is good to stimulate the vision, hearing, and tactile. It is all-in-one toy, with adorable look as a bonus 🙂

27

And another bonus is, this tree baby rattle is so photogenic! I can’t stop taking their picture in a different angle. Wish I had a baby (oops!) so the baby could be a model and play with this rattle. Does anyone out there have a cute baby to hold and play with this tree baby rattle with me? 😀

Ps: Just in case you seek another baby rattle pattern I designed, you can find it here. It’s one of my best seller pattern 😀

I can’t wait to find another idea to make more baby toy..

Granny Square Sophie

About a month ago, my mother asked me to make a crochet cushion as a birthday gift for her darling neighbor. I said okay instead of no, didn’t want to disappoint her though I wasn’t in a good mood to make that kind of thing. I’ve tried 1 or 2 patterns but still, I had no feeling about what I’ve done. One reason that made me lazy to did that was, it’s a cushion. Actually, I never enjoy making a crochet cushion-thing, unless the pattern is interesting. It’s important for me to avoid boredom and sleepy, or it will end with a goodbye (means it’s wasting time, energy, and of course yarns :p ).

Then I remembered long while ago I really crushed on Granny Square Sophie by Marianne and waited the right time to make it happen (and I thought that “now” was the right time). Her blog full of stories to read and free crochet patterns to try. And her Instagram (that I already followed) is so awesome, she did amazing works. I was so sure and decided to make that pattern as crochet pillow cushion, for my mother’s sake 🙂

But you have to stop here first because I want you to show you what I’ve done as the first start. I use a local product of soft cotton yarn with hook no.6. In my opinion, Granny Square Sophie will be more outstanding with crochet lace yarn, it will give a delicate look for sure.

I made 9 GS Sophie, and this is the first time in my life to try wet blocking. The final size is 32 x 32 cm (after wet blocking).

1

I attach them to a cotton fabric cushion that I’ve sewn before, in size 34 x 34 cm. I made it bigger than the GS Sophie on purpose so the pattern will be seen beautifully. This is one side crochet cushion, fast and easy to make 🙂

So, what do you think?

I already sent this image to my mother but she hasn’t reply my text yet. But I’m sure she will happy with this result!

Dreamy Garland

I was so excited when somebody’s ordering my Dreamy Garland. She doesn’t do crochet but she loves crocheted-things. So here I am ready to make it for her (and for you too if you ask me to). Here the look of the Dreamy Garland she ordered, hope she’s gonna love it!

27

If you do crochet, you can also make it by yourself. The pattern is ready to be downloaded on my Etsy shop.

Here’s another Dreamy Garland I’ve made at the first time as a crochet pattern, I hung it on my tiny home too 🙂 It gives a new ambiance inside my nest..

22

And here’s the current place where I hung it. I won’t take it off because it makes my home interior merrier 😀

24

I hung it at the threshold between my kitchen and dining room..

25

Love it much! How about you, do you love it too? Want to make it by yourself?

Scallops Bunting

If you’re looking for something cute to decorate your favorite room or a warm welcome party at home, maybe this one could be the answer. Scallops bunting could be the first aid to decorate the place where you want it to be merrier than usual days. You only need a crochet hook and some colorful yarns to make it happen.

23
as a wall decor at my tiny home

I inspired by fabric scallops bunting I used to see on Pinterest or Instagram. I always think if any of thing could be crocheted, why not? Maybe it needs a little bit effort, but it’s worth to try..

24
closer look

It consists of large and small scallops. You can make in one size or both size. In this tutorial, I made 3 large scallops and 4 small scallops which alternately arranged and hold together with a crocheted string.

a little bit closer

Little things make your room more alive. Could you feel the difference?

Now the pattern is ready on my Etsy shop.

Hope you enjoy it!

Tunisan Crochet Stitch

I always curious about crochet, especially about the variety of the stitches. There are so many stitches I can find on the internet and if feels I want to try it one by one >.<

And for tunisian stitch, I forgot when I started making it at the first time. I deeply in love with that stitch because the result looks like knitting. This wonderful stitch is a niche of crochet that allows you to do a crochet in different style and result. To make this stitch, you need a special hook, though you can use the regular one. If you use a regular crochet hook, you should choose the round-plain grip, it’s possible to make a tunisian stitch in a small size. The real tunisian hook has a long-round grip to hold all the loops together nicely. Some of them need a cable extension to hold the extra loops. The stitches work one side only, so you don’t have to turn around your work in each row. That’s what I know about tunisian stitch, please correct me if I’m wrong.

practice makes perfect

When I lived in Tokyo, I desperately searched the hook everywhere but got no clue at all! I thought to myself one day, I’m in Japan, why it’s still hard for me to find this kind of hook in this country. I went from small craft shop to famous craft shop, and I found nothing! Suddenly i had an idea to search it on Amazon Japan then I made a booking order. I have to wait about 3-4 weeks. A little bit of torture to wait that long, but finally it’s worth the wait. I’ve got a set of tunisian hook! Hooray!!

Now I’m a little bit addicted making a project using this stitch. I love the look of the texture behind, perfectly looks like knitting.

using 2 colors in opposite tone

And when I changed the colors and made some color gradations, the result was so excellent!

1
love the color changing, looks so smooth

Practice is needed before you’re going to implement this stitch to your project. It’s very tricky stitch but also challenging at the beginning. Once I made this practice done, and at the end I noticed that I missed 1 stitch in the middle, and it felt like arrrgggghhh!!! I had to pull the yarn off and restart over again from the middle. But after that, I felt so relieved and satisfied :p

Now, it’s time to think another idea, what I suppose to make using this pretty stitch?

Kuma the Bear

Kuma is a Japanese word means bear.

I’ve made this bear crochet applique in Scandinavian style.

Don’t you think he’s so cute and has a generous look?

I already listed the crochet pattern on my Etsy store, please click this to download. I always write my pattern in easy English and attached some detail pictures as a guidance. This pattern is suitable for crocheter, especially beginner, who is acquainted with basic crochet techniques.

13In my opinion, Kuma is suitable to be framed and put on the table as a kid’s room decor or simply hang it as a wall decor. But it also possible to sew on your baby blanket, or even glue on some invitation cards. He’s very versatile 🙂

What do you think about him? Please tell me..

Hope you have a nice day…Regards,

Martika 🙂

Glowey Monster

Here’s a little story about Glowey Monster, a critter i made for “amigurumi monster design contest” by amigurumi patterns.

* * * * *

Glowey lives in a far far away place called Monster City, the city that full of bad monsters. All human are really scared and try not to have problems with them. But actually the problems always come from the monsters itself. They always make a trouble to human, come to Human City and make a messed. Human always being accused by the monsters for all the troubles. Poor human…

But there’s one monster that looks different than other monters. He doesn’t have a heart to hurt human’s feeling. He’d rather make them happy and please them. His name is Glowey Monster. He’s glowing when happy. But when he’s feeling sad, the glow is dissapeared.

Glowey loves his glow, because he can make human happy. But in the other way, all monsters are not happy at all with that glowy-thing. Usually in the middle of monster’s meeting, or while all monsters busy, Glowey always runs away to Human City. The more he often to show off his glowing body to human, the more he feels happier because human feel the same way too.

Until one day he’s never showed up again in Human City. All human are wondering about his absence, is something going wrong with him, is he ok, does he still love human, etc. The truth was one night at the border line, one of the monster secretly spied on Glowey while he headed to Human City. And that monster right away reported Glowey to Monster Chief and said that Glowey loves human. That against one of the Monster City’s laws.

When Glowey came back to Monster City, Police Monster already waited in the border line and caught him. He’s arrested until who knows when. Poor Glowey…

The End.

* * * * *

I know this is not a happy ending story. But in actual life, sometimes we’re not always get what we want, right? At that point we have to be patient and find another better clue.

I didn’t win the contest, but i was proud of my self beacuse i’ve got 365 votes from the audience! And i thank to my kids and my husband who gave all ideas about monster sketches to me (I asked them one by one to made some monster skteches and we selected them together).

Here is Glowey in lime green..
